We are now accepting sound checks! If you are reading anything at all for this project, you MUST submit a sound check.
We know that finals and holidays are ongoing right now, so we're giving plenty of time for you to record your sound check. Please have them sent in by January 1st. If you have any problems, please feel free to let us know in the comments or send me an email at dirtydirtychai at gmail dot com.
You will need a microphone and a recording program of some kind. Audacity is free.
1. Record Librivox's 1 Minute Test, shown below, on your machine. (Note that we are not actually afiliated with Librivox, we’re just using their sound check guidelines because they are very good guidelines and why reinvent the wheel. Do NOT email Librivox with your sound check.)
Script to record for the sound check (source: Librivox):
People were pleased to find that Peter Piper had picked a couple pages for fable fans at LibriVox. Thankful that this was Thursday the thirtieth, the Piper anticipated forum fun and a wonderful weekend of recording! This is a test by YOURNAME. Had it been an actual LibriVox contribution, it would have been a Public Domain text, previously published and probably interesting."
2. Name your file [SC-userid.mp3] i.e. SC-dirtydirtychai.mp3
3. Drop your file into the GDrive folder.
4. Fill out this spreadsheet with your information.
Use the name or screen name you want to be credited with. In the chapter-by-chapter podcast, we’ll credit the readers each episode/chapter, unless you ask to be uncredited. When we release the whole book as podfic, we’ll have a page with the full cast listed.
If you have any trouble dropping the file into the GDrive folder or otherwise accessing GDrive, you can email it to me with the following information:
Username (platform) [ Ex: dirtydirtychai (LJ and DW) ]
Email OR Alternate contact
Parts you intend to audition for, if any.
Remember, we aren’t auditioning the narrators and the smaller roles will be assigned. If you aren't auditioning for a major role and have a preference for a particular smaller role or section of the story, let us know!
And lastly, unrelated to the sound checks:
Anybody have any ideas for some music or something at the beginning? I’m thinking something Indigenous Australian, obviously, but I’m willing to hear any and all suggestions! It would need to be a fairly short sound clip.
Calendar:
Sound check deadline: January 1
Auditions: Jan 1 - Jan 15
